Do you have a fat head?

Posted by

I have a FAT HEAD. There, I said it.

Did you know that 60% of my brain is fat. So guess what? 60% of your brain is fat too. That's a lot of fat. So, go ahead, you can say it, I won't be offended. "Kelly - You have a fat head."

Studies show that fatty acids are what your brain uses to create specialized cells that allow you to feel and think. They help reconnect damaged neurons, and can even help with memory. The first essential fatty acid your brain needs is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and ALA is the foundation of omega 3s. Our bodies don't make this fatty acid so we have to get it from foods, like flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and fish (like salmon, sardines and trout). ALA is also found in some green vegetables, like brussel sprouts and kale.

Studies say we should aim for one rich source of Omega 3 every day. This can be a serving of fatty fish, or a handful of walnuts, or of course, our personal favorite, naturally flavored shelled flax seeds (that you don't need to grind because the shelles have been opened so you can digest the Omega 3s inside.

So my advice - feed your brain! You might work hard to keep fat off the rest of your body, but you definitely want a fatty brain. I'm proud to say, I have a fat head. How about you?
